Welcome to Life.io, a product of Life.io, LLC, a Delaware Limited Liability Company (“Life.io,” “we,” “us” or “our”). Life.io is committed to respecting the privacy of our users. We strive to provide a safe and secure user experience. This Privacy Policy has been created to disclose Life.io’s use, collection and protection of Personal Information (described below). We pledge that we will take reasonable steps to ensure that your Personal Information will only be used in ways that are in compliance with this Privacy Policy.

Scope of Notice. Life.io provides an online service that educates users how to improve their financial, physical, and emotional well-being, and rewards users for their participation in online classes, quizzes, and challenges (the “Service”). We frequently partner with insurance providers to offer the Service as a benefit to their current or potential policyholders (“Carrier Offering”). This Privacy Policy is in effect for the Service, including any web pages or mobile applications on which it is posted, email lists, or other generic and personal information collected, retained, or received by Life.io, no matter the method of collection (e.g., mail, survey, website use, or any feature of the Service) (collectively referred to as the “Services”). Please read this Privacy Policy carefully to understand our information policies and practices.

Changes to Our Privacy Policy. Life.io may update or make changes to this Privacy Policy at any time. Please review it periodically. We may provide you additional notice of modification as appropriate, either through email, or an updated “date,” on the Privacy Policy we post on our Service. Your continued use of our Service after any modification of the Privacy Policy will constitute your acceptance of these modifications.

Information Practices

What is “personal information”?

Personal information is information that we hold about you, and which may reasonably identify you directly or indirectly, alone or together with other information.

Information we collect.

Below are examples of the different ways we use and collect personal information:

Information that you provide to us:

Registration and Profile Information. This information is necessary for us to provide you the Service. Life.io also may collect optional demographic information that you provide to us, such as optional self-assessments of your physical, mental, and financial wellness. Having optional demographic and wellness-related personal information allows Life.io to give you a personalized experience with the Service.

Communications. If you contact us, we may receive information you voluntarily share with us to help you resolve your problem or request. When we send you emails, we may track whether you open them to learn how to deliver a better customer experience and improve our Service. We will collect and receive any feedback, questions, comments, suggestions, ideas, or other information that you send to us (“Feedback”). This Feedback will be treated as non-personal, non-confidential and non-proprietary and we may use them and share them with third parties.

Job Search Information. If you desire to apply for a job with us, you may submit your contact information and resume online through our website. We will collect the information you choose to provide on your resume, such as your education and employment experience. You may also apply through LinkedIn. If you do so, we will collect the information you make available to us on LinkedIn.

Third-Party Credential Log-In. If you choose to connect to the Services using credentials from a third-party service like Google, we will collect authentication information and encrypted access credentials such as your Google account email address, username, and profile photo. With your permission, we may also collect other information available on or through your third-party Service account. We use this information to identify your use of the Service.

Third-Party Devices or Applications. If you choose to enable your Services account to access accounts you have with other third-party device or application providers, such as your Fitbit or Apple HealthKit account, we will obtain information about you from such an account, such as the number of steps taken in a particular day. You are able to revoke access to an enabled account at any time and your Services account will no longer have access to new information.

Information automatically collected when you use our Services:

When you use our Services, we use automatic technologies such as cookies (and similar tracking technologies) to collect information about your browser, your device information, and other information about the way in which you connect to our Services. Cookies help us to personalize and maximize your online experience and time online. A cookie is a text file that is placed on your hard drive by a Web page server. Cookies (and similar tracking technologies) help us to personalize and maximize your online experience. For example, we may use these technologies to:

  • collect information about how visitors use the Service (for example, which pages they visit, which links they use, and how long they stay on each page);
  • support the features and functionality of the Service (for example, to save a visitor the trouble of re-entering information already in our database or to prompt the settings they established on previous visits);
  • personalize a visitor’s experience when they use the Service; and
  • improve our marketing efforts, including targeted advertising.

We may use both session cookies and persistent cookies. A session cookie expires when you close your browser. A persistent cookie remains on your hard drive for an extended period of time. The information we collect using cookies and similar technologies may or may not be directly identifying of you, but we may link it to personal information that you provide. If you do not wish to receive cookies, you may set your browser or device to reject cookies (or certain tracking methods) or to alert you when a cookie is placed on your device. Although you are not required to accept cookies when you visit our website or and access the Service, you may be unable to use all of the functionality of the Service if your browser rejects cookies. Information automatically collected includes:

Location and Activity Information. Information about your estimated location which may be deduced by various technologies including your IP address.

Usage Information. This includes information such as your browser name, the type of computer used as well as other technical information about how you connect to our Service. This information may include the operating system and the internet service providers utilized, mobile device information (phone model and version) and other related information.

Device Information. Information about the device you are using such as, model, operating system, application version number and browser, mobile network information, IP addresses, usernames, email addresses and other device related properties.

Log Information. Server logs regarding how you use the Services, which may include: search queries, IP address, device event information such as crashes, system activity, hardware settings, browser type, browser language, the date and time of your request and referral URL, or cookies that may uniquely identify your browser.

Information from third-party analytics providers:

Life.io utilizes third-party analytics tools, such as Google Analytics to automatically collect some of the information described above. These tools collect information sent by your device or our Service, including the web pages you visit, add-ons, and other information that helps us improve the Service. In order to collect this information, Google Analytics may set cookies on your browser or mobile device, or read cookies that are already there. Google Analytics may also receive information about you from apps you have downloaded, that partner with Google. We do not combine the information collected through the use of Google Analytics or other third-party analytics tools with personally identifiable information. Third-party analytics providers’ ability to use and share information collected by and about your visits to the Services are restricted by such third party’s terms of use. How we use your information.

We use personal information to provide Services to you, to improve Services, and to protect our legal rights and limit collection of personal information to that which is relevant to these purposes. We will seek your prior written consent before using personal information for purposes not described in this Privacy Policy. To the extent EU data protection law applies to our processing of personal data about you as a user of our Services, we act as the “data controller”. To the extent EU data protection law applies to our processing of personal data on behalf of a data processor or data controller, we serve as the “data processor”.

We use your information in the following ways:

To Provide and Improve the Services, including use:

To Provide the Services. Information you provide helps us present relevant online classes, quizzes, challenges, and rewards to you when you use the Service. We also use the information we collect to help our insurance carrier partners better understand their policyholder populations.

To Personalize Your Experience. We may use your de-identified information to understand how our Users as a group use the Service and resources provided on the Service. To the extent permitted by applicable federal and state laws and regulations, we may use your information to recommend financial, physical, and mental well-being related actions within the Services that are relevant to your interests.

To Improve Customer Service. Information you provide helps us respond to your customer service requests and support needs more efficiently.

To Verify Your Identity. We use your information to prevent fraud or other unauthorized or illegal activity on your account.

To Improve Our Site and App. We may study or use the information and feedback you provide to improve our Service.

To Send You Email. We may use your email address to send you communication relating to your account including account verification, changes to our Service, technical and security notices. We may also provide communications regarding updates in our Privacy Policy. We may also use your email address to respond to your inquiries, questions, or other requests. To the extent permitted by applicable federal and state laws and regulations, we may send you email that we think is relevant to your interests.

To Encourage Community Within the Services. With your consent, Life.io shares select User data with other Users within the Service, such as first name, user avatar, points earned, and steps taken, in order to promote health and wellness through community support (“User Content”). You may choose to remain anonymous as you utilize the Service by not participating in community-based features. Whether you choose to participate in community-based features or not, your health information will not be visible to other users.

To Communicate with Third-Party Service Providers and Enable Third-Party Service Providers to Communicate With You in a Manner Consistent with This Privacy Policy. To the extent permitted by applicable federal and state laws and regulations, your information may also be transferred to third-party service providers who act for or on our behalf, for further study or processing in accordance with the purpose for which the information was originally collected or may otherwise be lawfully processed, such as services delivery, evaluating the usefulness of the Service, evaluating improvements upon or new uses for the Service, marketing, data management or technical support.

To Comply with Legal Requirements and Protect Our Rights.

When needed, we use your information to enforce this Privacy Policy, the Terms of Use, and any other terms that you have agreed to, including to protect the rights, property, or safety of Life.io, its users, or any other person, or the copyright-protected content of the Services as well as to comply with our legal obligations.

How we share information collected.

We share information collected about you with service providers that assist us with the provision of our Services, or as necessary to comply with our legal obligations. We may also share information collected about you in connection with a business transaction, including our contractual relationships with insurance carriers. We also process and share information in an aggregated, de-identified manner, where the information is shared as part of a statistical report and does not contain personal information. Please see the section “Cookies and Other technologies” below for information about the technologies that we and third parties use to collect information and to learn about options in connection with these.

With service providers. We share your information with service providers to perform functions and process your data and to help provide our Services, consistent with this Privacy Policy. The legal basis for this sharing of your information is our legitimate interest in providing our Services efficiently.

With insurance carriers. We share your information with insurances carriers in connection with Carrier Offerings in accordance with our contractual obligations to them. The legal basis for this sharing of your information is our legitimate interest in carrying out our business operations.

With our affiliates and in connection with a business reorganization. We may share your information with companies under common control with Life.io in the ordinary operation of our business. In addition, we would share your information if we are involved in a merger, acquisition, consolidation, change of control or sale of all or a portion of our assets or if we undergo bankruptcy or liquidation. The legal basis for this sharing is our legitimate interest in carrying out our business operations.

In order to comply with our legal obligations, protect our rights and those of others. We share your information, per your instructions, in order to prevent fraud or abuse to our Services, to protect your rights, to comply with our legal obligations and to protect our rights. The legal basis for this sharing is compliance with the law and our legitimate interest in the prevention of fraud, compliance with legal obligation and the protection of the rights of others.

Pursuant to your instructions. When requested, we will share or facilitate the sharing of your information with third parties pursuant to your instructions. We do not have any legal relationship with such parties. You are responsible for entering into separate contractual arrangements with such third parties binding them to comply with data protection obligations. These third-party data processors are not sub-processors and we shall not bear any responsibility or liability for sharing information with such parties. The legal basis for this sharing is necessary for the performance of our contract with you.

To prevent fraud and abuse of the Services. We will share information to prevent or detect fraud or to address technical issues and if we believe it is necessary to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding situations that involve abuse of the Services infrastructure or the Internet in general (such as voluminous spamming, denial of service attacks, or attempts to compromise the security of the website infrastructure or the Services generally).

To protect your rights. We will share information in an emergency or to protect the safety of any person and if we believe it is necessary in order to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, fraud, or situations involving potential threats to the rights, property, or personal safety of any person.

To protect our rights and comply with our legal obligations. We will share information if we are legally required to do so, such as in response to court orders or legal process (e.g., a court order or subpoena), or to establish, protect, or exercise our legal rights or to defend against legal claims or demands, or to comply with requirements of mandatory applicable law. We will also share information as necessary to enforce this Privacy Policy, the Terms of Use, any other terms that you have agreed to, including to protect the rights, property, or safety of Life.io, its users, or any other person, or the copyright-protected content of the Services.

Sharing information with social media services. If you have given permission in connection with using the third-party services for the purpose of signing in, or on your preferences set with the third-party service, some information about you can be shared with social media services and with others through third-party services and may be published by them or may be shared by default. You understand and agree that a third-party service’s use of information collected from you (or as authorized by you) is governed by the third-party service’s privacy policies and your settings on the relevant service, and that our use of such information is governed by this Privacy Policy and your Service account settings.

How we protect user information.

We take reasonable precautions, appropriate to the applicable risk, to protect your personal information. If Life.io learns of a security systems breach, we will notify you as required by applicable law so that you can take appropriate protective steps. Please keep in mind that the Internet is not a 100% secure medium for communication. Although we endeavor to provide reasonable security for your information, no security system can prevent all potential security breaches.

Where information is processed.

The internet is a global environment. Using the internet to collect and process personal information often involves the transmission of data across borders. This means that your information may be transferred to and maintained on computers located outside of your state, province, country or other governmental jurisdiction where the privacy laws may not be as protective as those where you are located. Life.io is based in the United States. When you use our Service you consent to the processing and transfer of information in and to the United States and other countries. If you are a user based in the U.S. and you use the Service while you are abroad, your information may be available to law enforcement or to the government of that country. By registering for and using the Service you consent to the transfer of information to the U.S., the use and disclosure of this information is described here, in this Privacy Policy.

What can you do about how we use your information?

Email communication. Users may opt out of receiving promotional email communication from Life.io via the “unsubscribe” link found at the bottom of each email, or by sending an opt-out request to us at privacy@life.io with the word “unsubscribe” in the email subject line. We will continue to send you notifications necessary for the Services to the email address in our records.

Deleting your account. You may request that we delete your Service account by emailing us at privacy@life.io. If you choose to delete your account, we will delete relevant information from our systems, except as may be necessary to retain in order to fulfill our contractual or legal obligations to you or third parties.

Cookies and other technologies. We do not control how third parties use your information, but you can opt out of certain third-party activities at the links below. Please note that we do not endorse, and we may not use, all of the services listed. These actions may not opt you out of being serviced advertising; you will continue to receive generic ads as you navigate the internet.

Google Ads: To control the types of ads Google presents to you in its advertising network, follow the instructions to block certain ads.

Google Analytics: You can opt out of Google Analytics here.

Facebook Pixel: You can set your Facebook ad preferences here.

LinkedIn: You can opt-out of the LinkedIn Insight Tag by clicking here.

Interest-based advertising generally: Industry solutions allow you to opt out of certain ad features more broadly across various third parties. To opt out of interest-based advertising or to learn more about the use of this information, you can visit the Network Advertising Initiative, the Digital Advertising Alliance, or in Europe, Your Online Choices.

Browser: You may be able to instruct an internet browser to refuse all cookies or indicate when a cookie is set on your device. Please refer to cookie-specific preferences in your browser’s settings if you wish to set these preferences.

Browser Do Not Track. The Services do not support Do-Not-Track (“DNT”) at this time. DNT is a privacy preference you can set in your web browser to indicate that you do not want certain information about your webpage visits collected across websites when you have not interacted with that service on the page.

How long do we keep your information?

We will retain your information for as long as: (i) your account is active; (ii) needed to provide you services; (iii) necessary to comply with our contractual and legal obligations; (iv) needed to resolve disputes and enforce our agreements; or (v) where allowed, we deem appropriate in aggregate and/or de-identified form unless you or the insurance carrier that provided the information request that it be deleted.

Third-party links.

Our Service may contain user links to websites other than our own. We have no control over the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party site. We do not assume responsibility or liability for any content, opinions, materials, or services available on them and you are subject to the policies of those third-party sites where applicable. We encourage you to ask questions before disclosing any personal information. We retain the right to disable user links from the Service, but we make no warranties that we will do so. If you leave the Service and access a third-party site or content linked from our Service, our Privacy Policy no longer governs your transaction.

Children’s privacy.

The Service is not intended for individuals under the age of 18. Children under 18 years old may not use the Service or access its content without the written permission of a parent or guardian. If you believe that a child under the age of 18 has submitted information to the Service without the consent and supervision of a parent or guardian, please contact us as indicated in the “How to Contact Us” section above.

Notice to California residents

Note: The following section applies to residents of California only.

California Shine the Light Law. Residents of the State of California have the right to ask companies conducting business in California to provide them with a list of the types of personal information that they have disclosed during the preceding year to third parties for the third parties’ direct marketing purposes, and the identity of those third parties. Note that Life.io does not disclose any personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes.

California Consumer Privacy Act. Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (“CCPA”), if you are a California resident, or an authorized representative of a California resident (see “Authorized Agents,” below), you have the following rights regarding your personal information:

  1. The right to request disclosure of:
    • the categories and specific pieces of personal information collected about you;
    • the categories of sources from which your personal information is collected;
    • the business or commercial purpose for collecting or selling or personal information; and
    • the categories of third parties with whom the business shares your personal information.
  2. The right to request deletion of any personal information collected about you.
  3. The right not to be discriminated against because you have exercised any of these rights.

To submit a disclosure or deletion request (rights #1 and #2 above), please contact us at privacy@life.io or 1-844-973-2348. Please include “CCPA Request” in the subject line of your email and include your name and whether your request is a “request for disclosure” or a “request to delete.”

Please note: We do not sell personal information to third parties. We only share information to third parties in connection with Carrier Offerings in a de-identified and/or aggregate format, at your direction, or to third-party service providers that process information on our behalf.

Verification: Before responding, we will verify your request by comparing the information you submit with the request to information related to your account. In some cases, we may request additional information to confirm that we have identified the correct records in our system. Subject to certain exceptions that may apply in the CCPA, if we are able to verify your request, we will accommodate your request. If we are unable to accommodate your requests fully, we will provide you additional information about the reasons that we could not fully comply with your request.

Authorized Agents. You may also designate an agent to exercise your rights under CCPA as described above. We will take steps to verify both (1) the identity of the person seeking to exercise their rights as listed above and (2) that your agent has been authorized to make a request on your behalf by providing us with a copy of a signed written authorization or a copy of a power of attorney. We may deny a request received from an authorized agent if we cannot verify that you authorized the agent to act on your behalf. If the authorized agent does not provide a valid power of attorney, we may, at our discretion, ask that you verify your identity with us directly before fulfilling a request received from an authorized agent.

The Personal Information We Collect and Disclose. The sections below shows the categories of personal information we collect, examples of the type of personal information in each category, and the sources, business purposes, and third-party recipients for each category of personal information. This information covers the past 12 months. We disclose personal information to third parties to help us provide the Service. For example, we may use cloud service providers to process and store personal information. We do not “sell” personal information to third parties, but we may disclose your personal information to the following types of third parties for a business or commercial purpose.

Unique identifiers

From an insurance carrier: An insurance carrier may provide Life.io with your first name, last name, and email address. Upon registration for the Service all additional personal information, including unique identifiers, is provided by you. We may also receive your information from other individuals who refer you to our product.

Directly from you: Through your use of the Service, we may ask that you update or provide additional identifying information.

Business purposes for collection of personal information:

To provide targeted electronic communications to you, so that you know you have access to the program.

Third-party recipients of personal information:

Email service providers that send marketing and transactional messages on our behalf.

Surveying platforms that collect survey responses on our behalf.

Your insurance carrier.

Physical description

(E.g. physical characteristics or description)

Directly from you: Through the Service, you have the opportunity to create an avatar. This can look as much or as little like you as you choose. Your avatar selections, such as hair or eye color, are not interpreted as data points about your personal physical characteristics.

Business purposes for collection of personal information:

The creation of an avatar is used for self-visualization and personalization of the Service.

Third-party recipients of personal information:

Email service providers to personalize marketing communications.

Financial information

(E.g. qualitative information about your impression of your financial circumstances)

Directly from you: While using the Service, you may be asked optional, qualitative questions about your financial life where you can select responses that are “most like you.” The Service does not collect any identifying information about your finances.

Business purposes for collection of personal information:

Qualitative financial information is used to better understand individual engagement habits and improve insights shared with our insurance carrier partners.

Third-party recipients of personal information:

Email service providers that send messages on our behalf.

An insurance carrier.

Health/medical information

(E.g. qualitative information about your impression of your health and fitness, data from fitness tracking tools or apps)

Sources of personal information:

Directly from you: While using the Service, you may be asked optional, qualitative questions about your health and fitness where you can select responses that are “most like you.” The Service does not collect any identifying information about your physical health or any medical information.

From third parties, with your permission: While using the Service, you have the option to connect a third-party fitness tracking service, such as a Fitbit® or Apple HealthKit®. If you do so and grant permissions, we will have access to your daily steps and distance data.

Business purposes for collection of personal information:

Qualitative health information is used to better understand individual engagement habits and improve insights shared with our insurance carrier partners.

Email service providers that send messages on our behalf.

Insurance information

From an insurance carrier: In some circumstances an insurance carrier provides an insurance policy number as a unique identifier.

In some instances, the insurance policy number is used as a unique identifier.

Third-party recipients of personal information:

An insurance carrier, so that it may identify you in its systems.

Protected class data

(E.g. characteristics of protected classifications under California or federal law, including, race, ancestry, national origin, age (40 years or older), marital status, sex, sexual orientation, medical condition, disability, genetics, and veteran or military status)

From an insurance carrier: An insurance carrier may provide Life.io with your sex and date of birth. Upon registration for the Service all additional personal information is provided by you via optional questions.

Business purposes for collection of personal information:

To develop de-identified consumer segments and analyze the policyholder population of our insurance carrier partners.

Third-party recipients of personal information:

Email service providers that send messages on our behalf.

Internet activity

(E.g. internet or other electronic network activity information, including, but not limited to, browsing history, search history, and information regarding a consumer’s interaction with an internet website, application, or advertisement)

From your use of the Service: We collect information regarding your internet activity through third-party analytics companies and tools.

Business purposes for collection of personal information:

To understand internet tracking coming to and leaving our Site.

Employment information

Directly from you: While using the Service, you may be asked optional, qualitative questions about your employment where you can select responses that are “most like you.” The Service does not collect any identifying information about your profession or employment.

Qualitative employment information is used to better understand individual engagement habits and improve insights shared with our insurance carrier partners.

Inferences may be used to better understand individual engagement habits and improve insights shared with our insurance carrier partners.

Inferences may be used to develop de-identified consumer segments and analyze the policyholder population of our insurance carrier partners.

Third-party recipients of personal information:

Email service providers that send messages on our behalf.

We do not knowingly collect the personal information of minors under 18 years old without authorization, and we do not sell such personal information.

Notice to European residents

Note: The following section applies to residents of the European Economic Area only.

For the purposes of this section, personal information is equivalent to personal data, as it is defined in the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/679).

Notice to European residents — EU data subjects rights.

We comply with applicable data protection laws and value your right to privacy. In furtherance of our obligations to you that flow from our data collection practices, if you are resident in the European Economic Area you are entitled to the following rights:

  • Right of access. You have the right to request copies of your personal information. We may charge you a small fee for this service.
  • Right of rectification. You have the right to request that we correct any information you believe is inaccurate. You also have the right to request that we complete the information you believe is incomplete.
  • Right to be forgotten. You have the right to request that we erase your personal information, under certain conditions.
  • Right to restriction of processing. You have the right to request that we restrict the processing of your personal information, under certain conditions.
  • Right of portability. You have the right to have the data we hold about you transferred to another organization.
  • Right to object. You have the right to object to our processing of your personal information, such as direct marketing (to the extent applicable). We may use your email address to send you communication relating to our product offerings, including account verification, changes to our Services, and technical and security notices.
  • Right to object to automated processing, including profiling. You have the right to not be subject to the legal effects of automated processing or profiling.

You also have the right to make a GDPR complaint to the relevant Supervisory Authority as defined in the GDPR. A list of Supervisory Authorities is available here. If you need further assistance regarding your rights, please contact us at privacy@life.io and we will consider your request in accordance with applicable law. In some cases our ability to uphold these rights for you may depend upon our obligations to process personal information for security, safety or fraud prevention reasons, compliance with regulatory or legal requirements, or because processing is necessary to deliver the services you have requested. Where this is the case, we will inform you of specific details in response to your request.

You may access your Service account to access, correct or delete the information you provided to us and which is associated with your account.
